Hi Steve, the instrumental is used throughout the a-side. It's a tribute to soul singers and it's spoken word with the 'Is It Because I'm Black' instrumental underneath and then clips of different soul tracks joining the whole thing together. It's an interesting track but not something that requires repeat listens.

Thanks for the info. So is the spoken word on the a side only on the intro? I have a 7" copy I found in JA with the spoken word intro/inst on one side and a faded in Is it because I'm black on the other side. No name on the label, just some cool art work. It's always been a big mystery to me.

Hip Hop is a cultural movement expressed through the tradional elements of deejaying, emceeing, various forms of dance (breaking, popping, locking) and writing (graf art). As a culture, hip hop represents other aspects of culture as well such as language, style of dress, politics, etc. Hip hop is life!

[...] As I mentioned before there have been a fair few vinyl related videos cropping up online of late but few (if any) are as fascinating and inspiring as Belgian vinyl maven Jean Roger who details several decades of digging. Superbly put together by the Laid Back crew (I hope there’s more like this coming); be sure to check out their superb radio player and check out JR playing records and being interviewed (in Belgian) on Laid Back radio.
